Seo Kang-joon’s Profile
Seo Kang-joon was born on October 12, 1993, with the birth name Lee Seung-hwan. His hometown is in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, and he was raised along with his older sister. He had the experience of studying abroad in Malaysia at the age of 17, for about a year and a half, then returned to Korea and attended Dong Seoul College, majoring in Performing Arts. Seo Kang-joon is a member of 5urprise, an group of actors consisting of four members besides himself, including Gong Myung, Yoo Il, Kang Tae-oh and Lee Tae-hwan. The group was formed by the talent agency Fantagio, and Seo Kang-joon was chosen to be of the group’s members through a program of the agency’s called Actor’s League. Unlike from any idol group, who first build their careers in the music industry and later expanding it to acting, the members of 5urprise started their careers in the acting field. The group first made their debut by appearing in the mobile drama After School: Lucky or Not, in 2013. After that, the group released a single titled Hey U Come On for the show’s soundtrack. The five actors also had the opportunity to appear in one of Hello Venus’ music videos. Later, the group released their first single, From My Heart, in 2014. Meanwhile, Seo Kang-joon made an appearance in one of Ailee’s music videos. After that, he also started to show up in dramas, such as the SBS drama To The Beautiful You, in a supporting role, and in the KBS drama Good Doctor, as a guest. His acting skills were first recognized by the public when he starred in the SBS drama The Suspicious Housekeeper, where he plays an important role. That eventually led to his first major role in 2014, in a romantic comedy series called Cunning Single Lady. His work in that series led to him receiving a Best New Actor Award at the 7th Korea Drama Awards. Later, he expanded his career to television shows, where he joined a variety show called Roommate as one of the fixed cast members. He also made a guest appearance on Law of The Jungle. His breakout role, however, had to be the character he portrayed in the tvN drama Cheese In The Trap, where he acted as Baek In-ho, a talented pianist with a bad personality. Courtesy of that role, he started getting offers for lead roles, leading him to land the leads in various dramas such as Entourage and Are You Human?.
