Jung Doo-hong’s Profile
Jung Doo-hung was born on 14 December 1966 in Chilsan-ri, Imcheon-myeon, South Korea, so he is now 51 years old. He was born as the youngest of seven siblings. His interest on Korean traditional martial arts started when he was a freshman in high school. At the time, there was a newly-opened, private Taekwondo institute near his high school. He signed up there, and ever since then he has been engrossed in learning Taekwondo. Since he came from a poor family, he couldn’t afford his training fees, but fortunately the master of the institute, Lee Gak Soo, taught him for free because he believed that Jung Doo-hong had a great talent and was very passionate about Taekwondo. In 1985, he entered Junnio Incheon Junior College where he majored in athletics and physical education. In college he was selected as a member of a performing team that promoted taekwondo and Korean culture around the world, and he spent much of his college years overseas, teaching taekwondo in the United States, Japan, and Mexico. As a Korean, he had to do mandatory military service, and during that time he also served as a martial arts trainer of a front line elite unit. After that, he had a brief stint where he worked as a bodyguard for a parliamentarian after his discharge from the military.
