Both idols took a strong position in their groups, as vocals and lead dancers. They’re also known for giving great performances and having charisma that makes them stand out. Because of the similarity in their talents, Red Velvet’s Seulgi and BTS’s Jimin have been shipped by a number of their fans. Seulgi was born in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, on February 10th, 1994, with the real name of Kang Seul-gi (강슬기). As reported from KoreaBoo, Seulgi became an SM trainee when joined an open audition and her father submitted the application form when she was only in 6th grade. Time passed, and Seulgi assumed that she had failed the audition, but she got a the long-awaited phone call and become a trainee when she entered her first year of middle school. During her trainee days, Seulgi attended school but she had been told to keep her status as an SM trainee a secret. She was a popular trainee, along with Krystal and Sulli from F(X) and EXO’s Kai. After being a trainee for 3-4 years, she was starting to wonder if she’d chosen the right path for her life, since her friends are already getting normal lives, but she knew that she did, because she loved to develop her talent. Seulgi continued to be trained with the other trainees and got a chance to meet the rest of the Red Velvet members, who encouraged her to do her best for her eventual debut. Later on, Seulgi was announced to be one of SM’s rookies, and featured on Henry Lau’s ‘Butterfly’ music video. She also appeared on Henry Lau’s ‘Fantastic’ video before she finally debuted with Red Velvet, on August 1st, 2014. BTS’s Jimin was born in Busan, South Korea, on October 13rd, 1995, with real name of Park Ji-min (박지민). He’s been known as one of the best dancers in BTS, which isn’t a surprise since he was a top student at the Busan High School of Arts, in the Department of Dance. As a student who was born with talent and who was trained as a contemporary dancer, Jimin’s teacher encouraged him to join an audition for Big Hit Entertainment, and he passed the audition in Busan. Jimin moved to Seoul to became a trainee, and had the shortest trainee period of any of the members of BTS. While he was a trainee, Jimin appeared on GLAM’s ‘Party (XXO)’ musicvVideo and became a backdancer at GLAM’s ‘Glamorous’ performance. Later, he debuted as the final member of BTS, thanks to his skill and hard work. For example, KaiStal (EXO’s Kai & F(X)’s Krystal), who were shipped as a couple and finally they were spotted dating in real life. SEVENTEEN’s Vernon & Jeon So-mi had been shipped as a couple because they both have a Caucasian-Korean visual, and Produce 101’s Sejeong & Kang Daniel, who were been shipped as a couple because they both joined the same survival show, Mnet’s ‘Produce 101’, and having a charismatic look. Now let’s take a look at some SeulMin moments, and see if we can find evidence for whether they are, or could be, a possible couple. Starting in February, 2016, fans were already getting suspicious about the relationship between Red Velvet’s Seulgi and BTS’s Jimin, since they found some evidence related to a dating rumor. Their fans suspected the idols were seeing each other when they attended a music awards show and took the same pose when they were being photographed. Back then, Seulgi once posted a selca using a face filter that made her look like a rabbit on Red Velvet’s official Instagram account, with a caption that read, “Do you think I’m good at wink my eyes right now?”
A few minutes later, netizens saw that Jimin also posted a video through the BTS official Twitter account with a similar facial expression and the caption, “I closed my eyes because I can’t do the wink.” Netizens took their selca with such similar expressions as possible evidence they might be dating, thinking the idols were exchanging a “secret message” with their expressions and gestures through the pictures. The picture above was taken during BTS’s appearance on the Idol Star Athletics Championship and the other one was a random selca from Red Velvet that caught fans attention, because Seulgi and Jimin have similar expressions to each other. Netizens also found the shots, below, where they used the same pose while taking a selca through a mirror reflection, and both using the same black & white filter. The strongest evidence that K-Netizens (Korean Netizens) found is that Red Velvet’s Seulgi and BTS’ Jimin wore the same outfit while they were attending a music program; they were both wearing black turtlenecks and leather jackets. Matching outfits is a ‘couple look’ that is often worn by a dating couple in South Korea. Another piece of evidence that suggests the two lead dancers are a couple was through messages that they sent in a picture on their official SNS account. They also posted corn pictures at almost the same time, and all of these things together makes their fans wonder if they might really be dating. Most Red Velvet fans know that Seulgi’s nickname is Seulgi Bear. As a result, netizens connected the evidence that BTS’s Jimin posted through an official Twitter account, that had a picture of a bear, with ‘BTS JIMIN’ written on it, and a heart on the bear’s head, as further proof that SeulMin are dating. There was still more evidence supporting the SeulMin dating rumors, when they were spotted wearing the same beanie, couple rings, bracelets and necklaces. Many fans are saying that SeulMin is real because they’ve found so many similarities and evidence between them, but there are also denials, saying that their dating rumors aren’t true.
