He began to rise to fame with the 2004 hit drama What Happened in Bali, and then he became even more widely known for his first leading roles in the television dramas I’m Sorry I Love You in 2004, Chain and Abel in 2009, Phantom in 2012, Master’s Sun in 2013, and the most famous drama that he starred in, Oh My Venus in 2015-2016. The actor played his first lead role in the historical drama Thousand Years of Love in 2003. In 2005, So Ji-sub enlisted for mandatory military service and took a short hiatus from his acting career while he fulfilled his obligation to serve. Besides being an actor, So Ji-sub is also a rapper. He released his first mini-album, (EP) Corona Borealis, on March 13, 2012. The following year, he released another EP called 6 PM…Ground. Then, in June 2014, he released his third electronic hip-hop EP with the title 18 Years, in collaboration with the hip-hop group Soul Dive. After the EP release, he also released a single called Ganzi and was still collaborating with Soul Dive in 2015.

In 2009, Ji-sub had reportedly established a special relationship with Kim Hyun-Joo, and the word was put out that the couple would be marrying soon. However, the rumor was denied, and Ji-sub admitted that after the news they both lost contact with each other. Furthermore, he was also rumored to date Afterschool’s Lee Jooyeon. This rumor started to spread because someone reported that the couple often dated or were seen going out privately. But it was only a rumor. Jooyeon is dating BIGBANG’s G-Dragon. Finally, he was also rumored to be close to the woman who is now Kim Woo-bin’s girlfriend, Shin Min-ah. So Ji-sub and Shin Min-ah were both models for the casual clothing brand “GIORDANO” in 2013, and they worked together again, in November 2015, in a drama. At the moment, though, So Ji-sub isn’t involved with anyone. When asked about marriage, he said that he certainly wanted to get married, and he was ready to marry in his 40s. He also said that he wanted to have a wife who wasn’t closed to him and could accept and understand his work as an actor. He sounded a little sad about the fact that his relationships would always be different from most peoples, they wouldn’t be able to go out and watch a movie, or hold hands like everyone else. If he can find a woman who understands his work, he will apologize first because he can’t communicate regularly like a pair of lovers in general.
