NCT’s Doyoung, or also known by his real name Kim Dong-young (김동영), was a trainee of SM Entertainment since 2013 and was prepared to debut with a new boy band based in different cities around the world in a project known as SM TOWN: Neo Culture Technology 2016, created by SM founder Lee Soo-man. He is now a permanent member and also the main vocal of two of the NCT subunits, namely NCT 127 and NCT U. Meanwhile, NCT’s Doyoung is the youngest child of two siblings in his family with his older brother, Gong Myung. The actor who has appeared as part of the main cast of Bride of the Water God drama (2017), has a real name Kim Dong-hyun (김동현), was born on May 26th, 1994 and debuted as a member of the boy band 5URPRISE, under Fantagio Entertainment, in 2013, under the stage name Gong Myung (공명). Doyoung and Gong Myung as Brothers
As reported from OSEN on June 20th, 2016, Gong Myung held an interview where he shared information about his younger brother, NCT’s Doyoung and how proud he is to be his brother. Gong Myung talked about how he is really proud to see NCT’s Doyoung achievements from his pre-debut era until he became one of the quite popular K-Pop idols. The leading actor of the drama Drinking Solo (2016), Gong Myung, talked about his experience in the industry when he had to be very careful about mentioning NCT’s Doyoung, but eventually, articles about them being brothers started to circulate and fans discovered that their relationship is that of brothers. “Although I’m the eldest son, I knew that Doyoung is someone who you can easily depend on. He knows exactly what he wants to do from a very young age. When we were both in middle school, he would go to auditions and even managed to get into the agency after graduating from high school.” – Gong Myung The actor of Extreme Job (2019), Gong Myung, also revealed how he secretly visited his brother’s mini-concert before he debuted with NCT, during the SM Rookies era. As a member of a boy band, Gong Myung shared his experience of living in a dorm with the rest of the band members. Knowing that his brother also lives in a dorm with the other band members, Gong Myung expressed his feelings about living separately from his family and brother, and how they don’t get to see each other very often. During NCT’s Doyoung’s trainee era, and Gong Myung’s schedules as an actor, he revealed that it was very hard to live without their parents. Their hard work finally paid off when Doyoung debuted with NCT and people started recognizing Gong Myung as an actor, through the drama Entertainer (2016). Doyoung Gives Support to Gong Myung in We Got Married
Gong Myung appeared as part of the cast of the popular virtual marriage reality show, We Got Married Season 4, which was being aired between 2016 and 2017. He was chosen to be the virtual husband of actress Jung Hye-sung, who was also known as a cast member of Oh My Venus (2015) and played the role of Jang Yi-jin. In one of the episodes of We Got Married Season 4, NCT’s Doyoung was brought as a guest star and Gong Myung introduced his brother, who is also a popular K-Pop idol, to his virtual wife, Jung Hye-sung. It was a set-up event between Gong Myung and his brother, NCT’s Doyoung, that he wanted to introduce his brother to his virtual wife, Jung Hye-sung. For the special occasion of meeting her brother-in-law, Jung Hye-sung cooked a 21-dish meal but Gong Myung came and interrupted her. NCT’s Doyoung came right when Jung Hye-sung was almost finished cooking the meal, but some dishes were still not done and NCT’s Doyoung decided to help her for a moment. It was a funny yet sweet moment how the brother was there and Jung Hye-sung met her virtual brother-in-law for the first time. Fans were envious how good of a cook Jung Hye-sung is, and how she was able to cook many dishes in a short time. Gong Myung was also spotted stealing his virtual wife’s attention while she was cooking by doing skinship.
In the end, NCT’s Doyoung ate together with his brother and his virtual sister-in-law, Jung Hye-sung. NCT’s Doyoung was being mischievous by asking Jung Hye-sung about the things that Gong Myung likes to do with her and how his older brother reacted to his wife. NCT’s Doyoung also expressed his gratitude for Jung Hye-sung’s 21 dishes that she cooked earlier by eating them. As expected, the dishes tasted good and NCT’s Doyoung was very impressed with his sister-in-law’s cooking skills. Being the youngest at home, NCT’s Doyoung let his brother eat first as he still follows the family’s manners. He also praised the taste of Jung Hye-sung’s dishes by saying that it was the first homemade meal that he has eaten in a long time.
