Shim Eun-ha’s Family
After her surprising news about her acting retirement, in September 2005, Shim appeared in the news again when she announced in a press release that she was marrying Ji Sang-wook. The couple held a wedding at a private ceremony attended by about 150 people at Aston House, Sheraton Grande Walkerhill Hotel in Seoul on October 18, 2005. At the time, she reaffirmed that she will not return to acting. Until now, the couple has two daughters, the first born on March 2, 2006 and the second on November 28, 2007. Having expressed regret that she hadn’t pursued further education while acting, Shim entered the Korea National Open University in 2009 to study for a liberal arts degree. She then displayed her artwork at the 2009 Seoul Open Art Fair, where the Oriental ink-and-wash landscape paintings, done in classical Korean style, attracted attention for their exquisite detail. She sold her first painting at a fundraiser exhibit later that year. Later on, it was a new life of Shim Eun-ha’s husband. After being appointed as spokesperson for the Liberty Forward Party, Shim’s husband Ji unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Seoul in 2010. Ji subsequently joined the Saenuri Party and was elected as a member of the National Assembly for Jung and Seongdong, Seoul in April 2016 and up until now. Ji now joined the Bareun Party.
Shim Eun-ha’s Health Issues
In June 2017, another surprising news came from Shim Eun-ha. Earlier from the issue of Shim’s health, her husband and member of parliament Ji Sang-wook withdrew from his party’s leadership race. He said, “There has been an issue with my family member’s health, so I must be by my family’s side.” It was also relayed that Shim Eun Ha was given emergency treatment for a non-life-threatening drug overdose in Seoul on June 21, 2017. This raised concerns of Shim Eun Ha’s health. In response, Shim Eun Ha said in the official statement that she was released on the same day saying, “I have discovered that I have post-traumatic stress disorder recently, which I didn’t know about. I needed medical treatment, but until now, while raising my children, I overcame it on my own with my willpower and effort. However, recently, I started taking medication and had to go to the hospital. I am okay now and I will be discharged soon. I am sorry for worrying you.” Post-traumatic stress disorder occurs when a person is exposed to traumatic events and exhibits symptoms that includes depression, anxiety and insomnia. These symptoms can also occur up to three months after the experience. Fortunately, Shim Eun-ha’s health is reported to have been recovered now.
