Lovelyz’ Discography

After introducing three of its members, Baby Soul, Jiae, and Jin, through their solo releases in previous years, Lovelyz finally debuted with an eight-member formation. Prior to the release of their first full album, Lovelyz released Good Night like Yesterday, which they performed on November 12, 2014, a day after their debut showcase at the K-ART Hall in Olympic Park. The music video of Good Night Like Yesterday features the appearance of Infinite’s leader, Sunggyu, as the male model, and all Lovelyz members wear a flower crown, emphasizing their pure, innocent image as a rookie group.

Lovelyz’s debut track, Candy Jelly Love, which was the work of OnePiece and Kim Eana, was released on November 17 along with other tracks from their full album Girls’ Invasion. The b-sides of the album, such as the intro Introducing The Candy, Goodbye Chapter 1, and Getaway, as well as the solo release of Baby Soul’s Stranger, which features soloist Wheesung, Baby Soul and Kei’s She’s a Flirt, which features Infinite’s Dongwoo, Jiae’s Delight, and Jin’s Gone, were included along with the pre-release Good Night Like Yesterday. Notably, Girls’ Invasion sold over 11,324 copies and peaked at #7 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart and #16 on the Gaon Monthly Albums Chart.

Four months later, Lovelyz released the repackaged album Hi~, and began to promote the track with the same title, occasionally performing the additional track, Amusement Track, on music shows. These tracks also became the only Lovelyz’s songs which Jisoo did not participate in, due to her hiatus since the group’s debut. Compared to the debut track, Hi~ highlighted the members’ reserved side in showing their love interest. Notably, Hi~ sold over 19,654 copies and peaked at #4 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart and #12 on the Gaon Monthly Albums Chart.

After greeting the public as a seven-member girl-group, Lovelyz finally returned with Jisoo for their first mini-album, Lovelyz8. Prior to the release of the album, the midtempo ballad track Shooting Star was released on September 14, 2015. The music video shows a peaceful depiction of the girls with the background set of a library.

Three weeks later, Lovelyz released the mini-album Lovelyz8, which contains seven tracks, namely the intro, Welcome to the Lovelyz8, the title track, Ah-Choo, which is the work of One Piece and Seo Ji-eum, Hug Me, How to Be a Pretty Girl, Sweet and Sour, Rapunzel, and the pre-release track Shooting Star. The music video for Ah-Choo features the brief appearance of Infinite’s former member, Hoya. Lovelyz started to rise in prominence after the release of Ah-Choo, as is proven since the track was often used as the background track for several variety programs in South Korea’s television broadcasts. Notably, Lovelyz8 sold over 23,213 copies in South Korea and another 829 copies in Japan, jpeaking at #2 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart.

Early in December, 2015, Lovelyz released their first single album, Lovelinus, which marked their surprise return to the music industry. The single album contains three tracks, For You, which is the work of Heuk Tae (Jung Tae-soo) and Jo Seung-joon, Circle, and BeBe. Many fans think that Woollim Entertainment planned the timing for the single album poorly, because For You is a song that is perfect for playing in the summer instead of in the winter. Nonetheless, sales of Lovelinus hit more than 15,678 copies and it peaked at #2 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart.

Lovelyz started their first spring comeback in 2016 by releasing their second mini-album, A New Trilogy. Prior to the release, a prologue video was shared in mid-April, showing a glimpse of the girls in an indoor garden. A New Trilogy contains seven tracks, the intro, Moonrise, the title track, Destiny, which is the work of OnePiece and Jun Kan-di, Fondant, Bookmark, 1cm, Dear You, and Baby Doll, which could previously be heard in the prologue video.

Notably, A New Trilogy successfully sold over 28,985 copies and peaked at #5 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart and #83 on the Gaon Monthly Albums Chart. In addition, the title track, Destiny, was praised by American producer Brent Fischer, as the track has world-class grooves and current arrangements. The producer also expressed his interest in helping Lovelyz to venture into the American music industry. Well, that’s what we call a masterpiece!

Almost a year later, Lovelyz made a comeback by releasing their second full album, R U Ready?,  in late February, 2017. The album contains eleven tracks, the intro, R U Ready?, the title track, WoW!, which is the work of OnePiece, Cameo, Emotion, First Snow, Knock Knock, Night and Day, and Hide and Seek, as well as the collaboration between members, such as Baby Soul, Kei, and Jin’s Morning Star, Mijoo, Sujeong, and Yein’s The, and Jiae and Jisoo’s My Little Lover. Notably, R U Ready successfully sold over 24,862 copies in South Korea and 1,756 copies in Japan, peaking at #2 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart, at #77 on the Gaon Year-end Albums Chart, and at #44  on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart.

Early in May, 2017, Lovelyz released their repackaged album Now, We and began to promote the track with the same title. The repackaged album also contained one additional track, Aya. Now, We became the first Lovelyz song that won music charts on SBS’s The Show. In addition, Now, We successfully sold over 24,862 copies and topped the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart.

Following the success of their preceding albums that year, Lovelyz made another comeback in November, 2017, with their third mini-album, Fall in Lovelyz. The album became Lovelyz’ first collaboration with 1Take and TAK, who are also notable as their fans, unbinding their strong relationship with YoonSang, who previously worked with the group under OnePiece. Fall in Lovelyz contained seven tracks, the intro, Spotlight, the title track, Twinkle, Triangle, Just, Fallin, Secret Garden, and Sleepy Dream. Notably, Fall in Lovelyz successfully sold over 43,687 copies in South Korea and 3,327 copies in Japan, and peaked at #4 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart and #88 on the Gaon Year-end Albums Chart, making it the group’s highest-selling album, to this day.

Lovelyz returned to the music industry in late April, 2018, by releasing their fourth mini-album, Heal. The album contains six tracks, the intro, Heal, the title track, That Day, which is the work of Sweetune, who previously created the group’s b-side tracks Emotion and The, Mi-myo Mi-myo, Temptation, Watercolor, and Shining★Star. Notably, Heal sold over 42,791 copies in South Korea and 4,794 copies in Japan, and peaked at #2 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart, #43 on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart, and #10 on Five Music Weekly Albums, Taiwan, as well as topping the iTunes K-pop Music Albums in the United States and Hong Kong in the first week of its release.

In middle of June, 2018, Lovelyz released a special digital single, Wag-Zak. The summer song also became Lovelyz’s first song in which the main vocalist, Jin, didn’t participate due to her hiatus. Wag-Zak was performed several times on music shows, which was followed by the release of its music video. On September 11, Lovelyz released their first compilation album, Muse on Music, which became the first instrumental album that a girl-group released. Muse on Music contains the instrumental versions of 33 tracks from their eight albums, divided into three discs, namely Dawn, Day, and Night versions. Notably, Wag-Zak peaked at #95 on the Gaon Digital Chart and #92 the Gaon K-pop Hot 100, whereas Muse on Music sold over 6,714 copies and peaked at #9 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart.

In late November, 2018, Lovelyz made a comeback with the complete line-up and released their fifth mini-album, Sanctuary. The album contains seven tracks, the intro, Never Ending, the title track, Lost N Found, which is the work of Spacecowboy, 1988, NV, and Sweetune, Like U, Rewind, Rain, Daydream, and Floral. Notably, Sanctuary sold over 43,386 copies in South Korea and 6,517 copies in Japan, peaking at #8 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart and #26 on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart.

Lovelyz’ Filmography

The first variety show featuring Lovelyz that their true fans must know about is Lovelyz Diary. The show started airing before the group’s debut and is divided into seasons The viewers can watch Lovelyz carry out different missions in each installation. To this day, Lovelyz Diary is already in the fifth season.

Lovelyz’ variety show, Lovelyz in Wonderland, broadcast on the cable network SBS MTV back in 2016. The show aired for eight episodes and told about the life of the girls, who temporarily moved out to a new house which is described to be their ‘wonderland’.

Lovelyz went overseas to Canada to shoot their first travel show, Lovelyz Loves Canada. The program aired on skyTravel and was specified as a web reality show. During their trip, Lovelyz was divided into two teams and carried out missions that they had to finish.

Lovelyz’s latest variety show, The Man Who Feeds The Dog 2, became another variety program where the girls showed their humane and pleasant characteristics. In this show, the fans were able to see how Lovelyz took care of three rescued dogs named Candy, Jelly, and Love, which were named based on the group’s debut song.

Not only on their own variety shows, Lovelyz has also appeared on many idol programs. The arguably most famous one is Weekly Idol. Ever since their debut, Lovelyz has done a filming of the show annually, which is often referred to as ‘the basement’, and does interviews and games with the hosts. Some of the members, namely Kei, Jisoo, and Sujeong, also appeared in a special Christmas episode in 2015, with members of the groups Twice (Nayeon, Dahyun, and Tzuyu) and GFriend (Yerin, Yuju, and SinB).

During their rookie days, Lovelyz also visited Arirang’s After School Club. The show became the bridge between the fans and the artists, as fans were able to greet their idols directly through the webcam. However, only selected participants were able to make it to the real broadcast.

Having a similar format to Weekly Idol. Lovelyz also appeared several times on KBS’ A Song For You. In the show, Lovelyz has to answer the fans’ requests and questions, which came from all around the world.

Renowned as a prestige artist in South Korea, Yoo Hee-yeol also invited Lovelyz to his show, Yoo Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook. In this program, Lovelyz showcased their heavenly vocals by doing an a capella rendition of Michael Jackson’s famous songs Beat It, in 2015, and You Are Not Alone in 2017. These a capella covers went viral among the netizens as soon as they were published.

Besides A Song For You and Sketchbook, another KBS’ program, K-Rush Idol Master, also brought Lovelyz on as their guests. Apparently, Lovelyz only went to the show twice, in 2017 and 2018.

There’s no denying that 2018 became one of Lovelyz’ busiest years. One of their variety broadcasts also includes their appearance on XtvN’s Super TV, which is hosted by Super Junior members.

Another KBS program, Immortal Songs 2, also often invited Lovelyz to fill its stages. Reportedly, Lovelyz has gone to the show three times, twice in 2016 and once in 2017. The girls never failed to put on amazing performances in each episode.

Similar to Immortal Songs 2, Lovelyz also covered old songs in JTBC’s Sugar Man, on both its first and second seasons. In their first appearance, Lovelyz only performed with four members, but the last time they were guests, the group sang with the complete line-up.
