Sleepy’s Virtual Marriage With Lee Guk-joo On We Got Married
In early November 2016, it was reported that Sleepy will join the line-up of MBC’s We Got Married along with comedienne Lee Guk-joo following the departure of Eric Nam and MAMAMOO’s Solar. Before the virtual marriage show, Sleepy and Lee Guk-joo have met on MBC other programs Radio Star and I Live Alone, showing their great chemistry. The pilot episode displayed Sleepy and Kim Guk-joo who was interviewed before starting their marriage as the newlyweds. Sleepy thinks that Lee Guk-joo seemed to hate him when they met for the first time but they ended up match well with each other. On the other hand, Lee Guk-joo said that there is no one else beside Sleepy who can be paired with her for We Got Married, “I will keep an open mind about the matters”. The couple received their first mission. Lee Guk-joo made a surprise visit to Sleepy’s house. Though the day was already bright, Sleepy was still sleeping when she rang the bell. Sleepy’s dog Fury was unexpectedly torn the mission card as if he objected Sleepy and Lee Guk-joo’s marriage. After Sleepy woke up, he asked for a glass of water to Lee Guk-joo. She seemed annoyed when she went to the kitchen, though it did not last long as she was surprised seeing two platters of meat shaped into flowers in the fridge. Sleepy said that he wanted to give Lee Guk-joo the meats as the token of gratitude for marrying him, “I promised to never let you hungry”. However, Lee Guk-joo rejected the gift, saying that he already made her disappointed for sleeping when she visited him, “I am a woman too. I want real flowers, not flowers made out of meat”. Even so, Sleepy is able to calm her by giving a back hug as they were putting the meat back into the fridge. In addition, the couple spent their first meal together in Sleepy’s house. Despite their shaky beginning, Sleepy and Lee Guk-joo slowly to find each other fascinating and became a pair of lovebird when they held their outdoor wedding. It turned out that the wedding was a homage of Won Bin and Lee Na-young’s wheat field wedding in May 2015 at Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, which is personally selected by Lee Guk-joo as her ideal ceremony. The couple transformed into a formal attire as Sleepy wore a suit whereas Lee Guk-joo wore a white gown dress, looking lovely with the bouquet of wildflowers in her hand. Sleepy referred himself and Lee Guk-joo as SeulBin (‘seul’ is the first character of ‘Sleepy’ in Korean) and Guk Na-young while remarking that they look 99% just like the actor-actress pair. The wedding took place at Seoul’s Sky Park and attended by Sleepy’s younger brother DinDin and Lee Guk-joo’s guest on I Live Alone Kim Yong-gun. Sleepy later shared a picture from the event on his Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/BNjKuXOBbRP In mid-January 2017, Sleepy prepared a romantic candle special event for the birthday of Lee Guk-joo. He hid 32 roses all around the house which signified her age, made a little heart with candles scattering on the floor, and left a cute message outside which she will read as soon as she arrives. The note on the door said, “The password is your birthday” which she found adorable. Lee Guk-joo was seen to be ecstatic when she found Sleepy inside the heart, waiting with his head cradled in his hand, “You should get up. It is pretty!” which Sleepy replied, “Does your heart hurt right now? Because your heart dropped”. The comedienne wittily joked back, asking whether Gong Yoo will appear when she blows out the candles. Sleepy answered, “I am your Gong Yoo”. Aww, that’s quite cheesy! On We Got Married’s Lunar New Year episode, the couples of the show gathered for a holiday celebration by went to a bowling station and cooked with one another at Lee Guk-joo’s apartment. Choi Tae-joon and Apink’s Bomi won the bowling competition and as the prize of their victory, they told Sleepy and Lee Guk-joo to kiss. Despite starting off with the blushing, Sleepy shyly came forward and gave his wife a kiss on the cheek which makes everyone squealed pleasantly. In early February 2017, Sleepy helped out on Lee Guk-joo’s restaurant as a part-time worker. Though having zero experience doing the job, Sleepy is able to keep up due to his good-natured personality which earned him lots of love from the female customers. Looking at her husband’s popularity among the women, Lee Guk-joo disliked it and asked him to not flirt with them. She confessed in the interview, “I felt jealous at first, but it also makes me feel good because he is getting more love. People tell me that they are envious of us and we make them want to get married. When they ask for photos, they want to take it with both of us”. Regarding his husband’s work performance in her restaurant, Lee Guk-joo commented that she is proud of him, “He was very careful with the customers. I did not have to worry because he did so well on his own”. On his individual interview, Sleepy revealed that he felt a lot of responsibility as if the restaurant was his own. We love a hard-working couple! Unfortunately, the virtual marriage of Sleepy and Lee Guk-joo has to finish in May 2017. They went to Japan for their honeymoon, visiting a quaint village in the countryside by train. The trip was planned by Sleepy who wanted it to be one and only for Lee Guk-joo. The couple did various activities, starting from sightseeing and snacking on the delicious food, picking small figurines of their Chinese zodiac sign, discovering their fortunes for the year, and shooting gallery game which once again proved their excellent teamwork. At the end of the trip, Sleepy and Lee Guk-joo wrote each other postcards which they mailed and will receive in Korea.
