About The Show

The music show, Show Champion (Hangul: 쇼 챔피언), is a South Korean television program that brought a music broadcast live concept and aired on MBC Music every Wednesday at Bitmaru Broadcasting Center in Ilsan. The music show was hosted by a famous Gag-woman from South Korea, Kim Shin-young and also various guest MCs in every season. MBC’s Show Champion aired its 1st episode on February 14th, 2012, and is still airing until now. As far as the chart point system, the show has a rule that states that the top 10 of the week would have the highest probability of making it into the winner list by combining the results from:

45% of digital sales (Melon) 10% of physical sales (Hanteo) 15% of ranking from netizens 15% of ranking from professionals in the music industry 15% of points on MBC’s Music broadcast

The winner from this show would be getting the title Champion Song, the other groups or solo artists who have the hottest issue will be titled Issue Champion, and the best rookie of the episode will be getting the title Rookie Champion. Meanwhile, the fans and audience members who give a lot of points during the live broadcast of the show will be given the title Rookie Survival of the group itself. After the reorganization on September 4th, 2012, the chart point system above was abolished and new criteria were in effect starting from January 30th, 2013, such as:

50% of digital sales (streaming + downloads) 15% of online voting (Melon) 20% of physical sales (Hanteo) 15% of ranking from professionals and expert judges (MBC Music)

The chart point system has changed again throughout time and the latest changes made were in effect starting 2017 with a new set of criteria, such as:

40% of Digital 10% of Album 20% of Melon Online Voting 15% of Ranking from expert and professional judges 15% of Broadcast

Then the current criteria have entered the current chart point system, as below:

30% of Digital 20% of Idol Champ Pre-Voting 20% of Genie Pre-Voting 10% of MBC Music Broadcast 10% of Critics’ Choice 10% of Album Sales

The chart point system that has changed from time to time hasn’t revealed any reason why the production team has made numerous revisions of the system determining the winner of MBC’s Show Champion, but there are no pros and cons happening with the chart point system new rules and the show still categorizes as a weekly music shows with many enthusiasts. Beside Kim Shin-young who presented and hosted the show, there are also various former MCs who hosted MBC’s Show Champion, such as: Super Junior’s Shindong  (February 14th, 2012 – December 25th, 2012) Kim Kyung Jin – Hot Issue Announcer (February 14th, 2012 – December 25th, 2012) T-ARA’s Eunjung (January 30th, 2013 – August 28th, 2013) f(x)’s Amber (January 30th, 2013 – December 18th, 2013) Super Junior’s Kangin (January 8th, 2014 – December 31st, 2014) NCT’s Doyoung & Jaehyun (January 21st, 2015 – July 1st, 2015) After the short introduction to MBC’s Show Champion, let’s find out more about the winner of the show in 2019 in the section below!
