Let’s Get to Know More About The Ark
The Ark was a South Korean girl-band under Music K Entertainment, that debuted in April, 2015, and consisted of five members; Minju, as the group leader, Yuna, as the main rapper, Yujin, as the main vocalist, Halla, as the lead dancer as well as the group visual, and Jane as the main rapper as well as the maknae in the group. The name “The Ark” comes from Joan of Arc, a French saint and hero. That’s why, unlike other girl-bands that look girly, cute, and feminine, The Ark looked very tomboyish. They also had a group logo in the form of a shield with five weapons. Each weapon depicted the personality of each member. The Ark’s Talented Members
Talking about the members, some of the members weren’t newbies in the K-pop realm. Minju was a finalist of ‘K-pop Star Season 2’ and dubbed “Little BoA”. She also already had her solo debut with a single titled Good Bye Rain. Yuna is an ex-trainee of YG Entertainment. She became part of YG Entertainment after joining ‘Superstar K Season 3’ in 2011. Whereas, Jane had participated in “The Voice Kids” in 2013 and Halla became a model in Hong Jin-young’s music video for the song Cheer Up.
Min-Ju

Jeon Min-ju, the leader of The Ark, was born in Seoul. Even though she was born in South Korea, she can still speak Japanese fluently. She spent her high school life at Hanlim Arts High School and spent 8 years of training in Music K Entertainment. Before debuting as a member of The Ark, Minju had participated in ‘K-pop Star Season 2’. At that time, she belonged to a group named “You” and successfully became one of the ‘Top 8’. In that TV program, she was dubbed “Little BoA”, even BoA herself admitted to their similarities. Then, in 2014, after she was done with ‘K-pop Star Season 2’, Minju had her solo debut with a single titled Goodbye Rain featuring Yuna Kim and Hyunkyu of bromance, then she debuted with The Ark in 2015.

Kim Yu-na was born and raised in New York, USA. She spent her high school life at North Rockland High School, therefore it’s not surprising that she’s very fluent in English. Before debuting with The Ark, Kim Yu-na was a contestant of ‘Superstar K Season 3’ in 2011. Unfortunately, because she wasn’t fluent in Korean yet, she forgot some lyrics in the middle of her audition, so she couldn’t make it to ‘Top 10’ and was eliminated. Then, in 2012, it was revealed that Kim Yu-na joined YG Entertainment as a trainee and it was rumored that she would be debuted as a member of YG’s new girl-group, but before her debut, she decided to leave YG and South Korea then continued her studies in the USA. In 2014, Kim Yu-na surprised K-pop fans with her solo debut, with a song titled Without You Now featuring T, Tiger, and Bizzy. It was after that she had her debut with The Ark in 2015.

Yu-jin was born in Incheon, South Korea. She spent her high school life at Yongin High School. She’s usually called by her nickname, “Dolphin”. Because she has the ability to reach the high notes, she became the main vocalist in the group.
Halla

Lee Su-ji was born in Busan, South Korea, then lived in Daegu. Before debuting as a member of The Ark in 2015, she attended Hanlim Multi Art School in the Broadcasting and Entertainment Department, graduating on February 10, 2017. In 2013, she joined Music K Entertainment as a trainee for 3 years, then she appeared in the music video of labelmate Hong Jin-young’s song, titled Cheer Up, in 2014.
Jane

Jane was born in Seoul, South Korea. She spent her high school life at Hanlim Multi Art High School. Jane had participated in ‘The Voice Kids’ in 2013 before debuting as a member of The Ark in 2015. Besides singing, she also can play the cello and speak English very well.
The Light: The Ark’s One and Only Song
Being a girl-group with a lot of potentials made K-pop fans curious about them, and fans were looking forward to their next comeback after they debuted but, unfortunately, in one active year, The Ark only has The Light as their song. If you really miss them, let’s check the music video out!
The music video for The Light depicted a story about a mother who is very close to her daughter, they are just like close friends with each other. One day, the daughter will go on vacation with her classmates. Just like other mothers, the mother prepares everything her daughter needs to go on vacation and delivers her daughter to the bus that will take her daughter and her classmates to their destination. But, when the mother is working, she is shocked by the TV news that tells of an accident involving the bus that carries her daughter and her friends. At the end of the video, the daughter dies and the mother lives her life with loneliness and deep sadness.
