Lee Geung-young (born December 12, 1960) is a South Korean actor. He graduated from the Department of Drama in Seoul. He debuted after completing his mandatory military service. He is a veteran performer who has been at the heart of the industry since the mid-1980s. He debuted in 1982 as the 10th public relations actor for the Korea Broadcasting Corporation (KBS), became a voice actor for a year, and re-entered his KBS 18th career in 1983. In 1983, he debuted as an actor in the KBS drama Ordinary People. Despite his reputation taking a huge hit following the revelation of a sex scandal involving a minor in 2002, Lee Geung-young has steadily been able to regain his status as one of the Korea’s top actors. In 2011 he appeared in six films, including Sunny, War of the Arrows, Hindsight and Countdown. In 2012, he took on even greater roles in as many as eight projects, including Unbowed, The Concubine and A Company Man. However his most impressive roles that year were in a pair of very controversial films that appeared at the end of the year: National Security and 26 Years. Demonstrating his reliable status as a supporting star, he followed these roles in a number of blockbusters, including the summer 2013 hit The Terror, LIVE and the 2014 period blockbusters Kundo: Age of the Rampant and Memories of the Sword. Le Goung-young featured in no less than 10 films in 2014, which also included the swashbuckling hit The Pirates as a villainous pirate, Yim Soon-rye’s The Whistleblower, in which he played a fraudulent stem cell researcher, and crime caper sequel Tazza: The Hidden Card. He was equally prolific the following year, featuring in Ha Jung-woo’s Chronicle of a Blood Merchant, Choi Dong-hoon’s Assassination and the war film The Long Way Home, among others. 2015 ended in a big way when he was appearing as a crooked presidential candidate in popular thriller Inside Men. The next year was his take on a tongue-in-cheek role lampooning director Park Chan-wook in The Great Actor. In the meantime, he also wrote and directed the films The Gate of Destiny (1996) and The Beauty in Dream (2002).
Lee Goung-Young’s Sex Scandal with a Minor
Lee Kyung-young was arrested on 2002 on charges of having sex with a teenager. He was being arrested on suspicion engaging in teenage prostitution with a teenage girl. Lee Geug-young was suspected of tempting a movie actor, Lee Myung-yang (17), to “make her an actor” by having sex with her for which he then would provide 30,000 to 100,000 won in return for the service.
