Yoo Ho-jeong in Sunny

Sunny is a 2011 South Korean dramedy. The film is about a middle-aged woman who tries to fulfill her friend’s dying wish of reuniting their group of high school friends. The film alternates between two timelines: the present day, where the women are middle-aged, and the 1980s, when they were in high school. Yoo Ho-jeong played a lead role as Im Na-mi, a wealthy housewife and mother, who does her daily routine. While things look perfect on the outside (wonderful home, generous husband, beautiful daughter), she is depressed about her life. One day after visiting her mother, Na-mi passes a patient’s room with the sign “Ha Chun-hwa,” and thinks about her high school life. She asks her chauffeur to take her to the all-girls high school she attended in Seoul. They are ecstatic to see each other, but Na-Mi receives a phone call and has to leave. On her way out she asks Chun-Hwa if there is anything she can do for her. Chun-Hwa says no, at first, but after a moment of reflection, she makes a simple request to Na-Mi. Chun-Hwa asks Na-Mi to find the other members of “Sunny,” their high school best friends,  so she can see them one more time. Released on May 4, 2011, Sunny was the first film of that year to sell five million tickets in South Korea, and became the second-highest grossing Korean film by year’s end. As of September 20, 2012, it is the all-time 13th best-selling movie in South Korean history. Kang Hyeong-cheol and Nam Na-yeong won Best Director and Best Editing, respectively, at the Grand Bell Awards. On July 28, 2011, a Director’s Cut version of “Sunny” was released in theaters in South Korea. The director’s cut contains 10 minutes of extra footage that was removed from the original theatrical version to obtain a general audience movie rating. A large portion of the added 10 minutes contains violence or profanity. In 2018, this movie is being remade in Japan with title Sunny: Our Hearts Beat Together or Sunny: Tsuyoi Kimochi Tsuyoi Ai in Japanese.
