IU’s Concert in Singapore

For a decade, this is the first time for IU to hold a concert in Singapore, so it felt like a really special event for her to meet her Singaporean fans, or Singaporean UAENA. She opened the concert and said “I didn’t know I have so many fans here,” the songstress exclaimed upon seeing more than 5000 people that were present there and she continued “I’m sorry it took me so long to come. I’ll make tonight’s show a very special one!” What’s even more impressive, is that IU surprised her fans when she communicated with fans in fluent English throughout the show. She said in English, “When I was young, even though I received so much love, I used to pay attention to people who disliked me. That’s why my lyrics were so sharp and dark. It has changed now. I have become a person who can focus more on love.” And she added, “Seeing you guys makes me want to write more songs about love and comfort. And I really love myself when I’m in a mood like this. You guys make me a better person.”

The one-year anniversary of SHINEE’s Jong-hyun’s Death

Just a few days after IU’s concert was the one-year anniversary of Jong-hyun’s passing. SHINee’s Jong-hyun passed away on December 18th, 2017. Previously, before Jong-hyun’s death, he had stated his closeness with IU, that they often talked about music. She surprised her fans with a song that wasn’t on the setlist, “Gloomy Clock,” to remember and express how much she misses Jong-hyun. The song, which was written by SHINee’s Jong-hyun, is a song from her third album Modern Times. And she said, “I’ve been thinking about this song a lot recently. This song has been a great comfort to me since I made it. I wrote this song with the person I really miss.” https://twitter.com/rainstormlit/status/1073969585794166784 She even switched her mic from purple to a pearl aqua green one (which represents SHINee’s official fan club color). Many people felt very touched, especially the fans of SHINEE, or also known as Shawol, who thanked IU for the gesture.
