D-Day: About Morality and the Humanity of Doctors in a Disaster Area

D-Day (hangul: 디데이) was aired on JTBC and ran for a total of 20 episodes, starting on September 18, 2015. The drama was produced by S.M. Culture & Contents, written by Hwang Eun-kyung, and directed by Jang Yong-woo. The story, itself, is about a natural disaster that hits Seoul and the rescue workers and emergency medical doctors who help the whole city. D-day was the first disaster-medical drama which aired on JTBC and has strong themes around morality, death, and the value of good character. The plot revolves around the stories of a group of medical workers after an earthquake leaves the city cut off from access to electricity, phones, or water. The drama’s first episode is about introducing the various characters and setting up the crisis of the earthquake. For each character that appeared in episodes, things get more complicated after the earthquake happens, and the director of Mirae Hospital acts like they don’t care about the aftershocks which run through the city. In every episode the characters are involved in a variety of tensions. For example, Lee Hae-seong (played by Kim Young-kwang) sent more blood to help people in need and was attacked by a stranger who wanted to steal his motorbike. After the incident, the director of Mirae Hospital did their best to make his life turn into a mess. Lee Hae-seong (played by Kim Young-kwang) and Jung Ddol-mi (played by Jung So-min) play two of the lead roles, as medical workers who teamed up to help people after the earthquake. Many of the people who need care after the earthquake hit ended up at Mirae Hospital, but the nasty director, named Park Gun, didn’t want to let the patients receiving any care unless they could pay for it. www.kdramalove.comD-Day mixes the medical and thriller genres, and has scenes that are intense and others that are pretty funny, although, as the title suggests, the overall feel of the show is rather heavy.
