Seo Kang-joon and Gong Seung-yeon’s Romantic Moments on Are You Human, Too?
Are You Human, Too?(너도 인간이니) is a South Korean television drama that aired on KBS from June – August, 2018. Seo Kang-joon played one of the lead characters, named Nam Shin, who was a robot built by Oh Laura. Nam Shin was remodeled several times, and became Nam Shim I, II, and III. Gong Seung-yeon played the character of Kang So-bong, a former MMA athlete who had to quit fighting after being injured in a competition. Kang So-bong worked as a bodyguard and was assigned to Nam Shin’s security detail. Her job was to protect Nam Shin III from getting murdered, and she eventually falls for him. Are You A Human Too? also starred Lee Joon-hyuk, Park Hwan-hee, Kim Sung-ryung, Yu Oh-seong, Park Yeong-gyu, and many others. The drama was written by Jo Jung-yoo, who also worked on the drama The Princess’ Man(2011) and was directed by Cha Young-hoon whose previous work included Uncontrollably Fond (2016). Filming began in June, 2017, and ended the following November. The entire production process for the series took two years to complete, and cost a total of 10 billion won (US $9.23 million). One of the episodes was filmed in the Czech Republic, and received the highest ranking on episode 8 (June 12, 2018) with a 9.8% average audience share.

Seo Kang-joon and Gong Seung-yeon were paired as a couple in Are You A Human Too?, and they definitely had a good romantic vibe going on between them. Before going to the romantic scene, there was an episode in the drama where Seo Kang-joon and TWICE’s Jeongyeon’s sister Gong Seung-yeon are involved into a fight. This scene was considered fairly controversial when it was aired, because it showed violence toward the female character. In that scene, Kang So-bong, who worked as Nam Shin’s bodyguard, secretly took photos of him to sell to someone else. Nam Shin knew about it, and got very angry, throwing Kang So-bong’s camera away and slapping her face. What made the scene really controversial is that Seo Kang-joon didn’t just act like he slapped Gong Seung-yeon, he actually hit her on purpose. The producer and director of the drama explained that this was an important scene and they really apologized for the viewers strong reactions toward the violence. Lee Gun-joon said, “This was fake, all of the character and story line of the drama. This scene is important for the story line.” he added, “We added this scene to the story because we need to find a way how Nam Shin escaped after made a huge incident. I believe that a lot of viewers who was uncomfortable with this scene, but it was done for the story’s structure only.” Cha Young-hoon also explained that the violence wouldn’t happen again in the future, and the scene was showing off the power of chaebol (family-owned business conglomerates) who used it as much as they want. The production staff apologized for this scene after getting a lot of controversy. In this scene, Seo Kang-joon hugged Gong Seung-yoon in his embrace. The unique chemistry between them was apparent in this scene, as Seo Kang-joon held Gong Seung-yeon in his arms and they were wordlessly attached to each other. Seo Kang-joon once said that he is comfortable with Gong Seung-yeon because they’re the same age and he also mentioned that he learned a lot (in acting) with Gong Seung-yeon. Many viewers said that the chemistry between the two leads seemed high.
