Songpa Police Station confirmed that the 23-year-old hung himself at his home in Jamsil, southern Seoul, Monday. Kim Ji-hoo’s death is the latest in a series of suicides. Transsexual entertainer Jang Chae-won hung herself in the bathroom of her home on Friday, following the deaths of actor Ahn Jae-hwan and actress Choi Jin-sil. “Given the note and testimony from his family members, we believe he apparently committed suicide,” a police officer said. Police said his suicide reflects public prejudice toward gay people and their difficulty at succeeding in the entertainment industry. Apparently Kim Ji-hoo hanged himself in his room. While there was a recent header on his mini-hompy that said “In a little while, I’ll come to you in my next project!!” there were also postings that he put up on his message board on October 3 that displayed a downturn. A suicide note found at the scene read: “I’m lonely and in a difficult situation. Please cremate my body.” Kim’s mother said that he “underwent many professional and personal difficulties following his coming-out”. Days before taking his life, Kim wrote on his web site: “Life is like the wind. What’s there to agonise over? Meetings are happy, partings are sad, everything is just a moment.” Hong Seok-chun, Kim Ji-hoo’s aide who is also homosexual, said that Kim Ji-hoo suffered from lots discrimination against him.
