Who is Zhou Jieqiong?
Zhou Jieqiong, better known as Jieqiong or Kyulkyung, is a former member of I.O.I and right now is active as a member of Pristin and the group’s sub-unit, Pristin V under the management of Pledis Entertainment. She was born on December 16, 1998, in Taizhou, China. She is the oldest of her three siblings, along with a younger brother and a younger sister. Her fans have given her a few nicknames, such as China’s Miracle and China Dancing Machine. According to Pristin’s Vlive, other members called her Juju. Before starting her career in Korea, this superstar used to attend the Affiliated Secondary School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. While studying there, she specialized in pipa, which is a four-stringed Chinese musical instrument. In 2009 she was scouted by Pledis Entertainment in Shanghai, and later moved to Korea to become a trainee. In 2017, she graduated from Seoul’s School of Performing Arts. Besides the pipa, she can also play the piano. Before she made her debut, she was a backup dancer in Orange Caramel’s My Copycat music video. She also had made an appearance in SEVENTEEN’s Mansae music video. She is known to be close to SEVENTEEN’s Jun and The8, Ailee, Gugudan’s Sally, TWICE’s Dahyun, and Gfriend’s SinB. Career
After training for 5 years and 5 months under Pledis Entertainment, Zhou Jieqiong participated in Mnet’s survival program Produce 101 together with some other soon-to-be Pristin members, including Nayoung and Xiyeon. During the program, she performed various songs such as A-pink’s I Don’t Know, Sunmi’s Full Moon, 24 Hours, and many more. During the competition, she was chosen as the top visual performer by the other participants of Produce 101. At the end of the program, she won sixth place and went on to make her debut with ten other girls under the name of I.O.I. Together with other members, they made their first debut by releasing a single titled Dream Girls on May 4, 2016. Not long after, on June 10th of that same year, I.O.I’s management group YMC Entertainment officially stated that the group’s sub-unit would be releasing a single titled Whatta Man. Zhou Jieqiong was included in this sub-unit together with Nayoung, Kim Chung-ha, Jeon So-mi, Choi Yoo-jung, Kim Do-yeon, and Kim So-hye. What a rising star! Despite releasing a variety of songs, YMC Entertainment stated that I.O.I would be disbanded on January 31, 2017. For their last performance, the group held a final solo concert titled Time Slip – I.O.I from January 20 to 22, 2017. They also released a final track titled Downpour and filmed a CF for school uniform brand Elite together with boy group Pentagon. After receiving the compensation she’d earned from her work with I.O.I, Zhou Jieqiong gave almost all of her money to her mom and saved only a little for herself. After I.O.I’s disbandment, Zhou Jieqiong debuted as a member of Pristin together with Nayoung and nine other members. Their first mini album was titled Hi! Pristin and featured the title track Wee Woo. After that, Pristin made history when they became the first rookie girl group who performed their debut song on a live broadcast during Mnet Present. In January 2018, Zhou Jieqiong participated in Chinese survival program called Idol Producer, but this time she has a role as a dancing mentor. A few months later, she performed as a member of Pristin’s sub-unit, Pristin V and they debuted their single album titled Like a V. That same year she made her Chinese debut with a digital single titled Why? on September 6, 2018 and, like the star she is, followed up with her solo debut stage on iQiYi’s Idol Hits the very next day. Not only active as a singer, it was confirmed that this incredible entertainer will made her acting debut in the historical mystery drama Miss Truth in October 2018.
