NCT’s Doyoung : SM Rookies, NCT U, NCT 127 & NCT 2018
Doyoung was first introduced to the public as one of the SM Rookies in early 2015. SM Rookies is a pre-debut training team which comprises young trainees who have yet to debut through a variety of contents and activities such as music release, performance, variety show, as well as daily practice before the main debut. Doyoung was then selected as a new host on the MBC’s Show Champion music program along with another member of SM Rookies, Jaehyun, from January 21 2015–July 1 2015. Later, on April 2016, SM confirmed Taeil, Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun and Mark as members of NCT’s first subgroup, NCT U. The group made their debut in April 2016 with the digital singles The 7th Sense and Without You, with Doyoung as one of the vocalists. Doyoung, who has proved his unique and charming vocals as a member of NCT U, was then selected again to promote with NCT’s second sub-unit, NCT 127. This time Doyoung was picked as an additional member along with Johnny, who were both added after NCT 127 has already made their official debut in the previous year. In mid-January 2018, NCT was reported to be unveiling a ‘large-scale project’ for the year, titled NCT 2018. With the addition of three new members, NCT is back as an 18 member boy band, which means Doyoung and 17 other members are going to promote their album together for the rest of this year. The official sub-units (NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream) have finally released their first album back on March 2018, under the name of NCT 2018: Empathy.
