Super Junior-M’s Official Debut
Super Junior M or better known as Super Junior Mandarin, is a sub-unit of Super Junior who is promoting under SM Entertainment. This sub-unit contains several original members from Super Junior as well as new members who have nationality as Chinese members. Super Junior M has a member line-up with Sungmin, Siwon, Donghae, Eunhyuk, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Henry Lau, Zhou Mi, and Hangeng.Super Junior M debuted as a sub-unit and the group that most successfully carried the Mando-Pop genre by receiving many achievements. Formed in 2008, initially, Super Junior M had an original line-up with members who had debuted before Super Junior, such as Siwon, Donghae, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Hangeng. SM Entertainment added Henry Lau and Zhou Mi to become additional members exclusively in 2009.Because Hangeng filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment and decided to leave the sub-unit and Super Junior, there was an additional member to replace Hangeng, who became an inactive member with the presence of Sungmin and Eunhyuk. After Hangeng left, Sungmin became the leader and replaced his previous Super Junior M or SJ-M position for short.Previously, Super Junior M would debut under Super Junior China’s name, focusing on promoting and releasing Chinese songs to attract market interest there. On April 3, 2008, SM Entertainment then announced an official statement that the group would promote as a sub-unit called Super Junior-M, where the ‘M’ in the name represents the word ‘Mandarin’ and is also the first letter of their debut album, ‘Me.’ Besides that, ‘mi’ in Chinese is “迷” which also has ‘charismatic’ or ‘fan,’ which could lead to the members’ desire to connect more closely with their fans.At the beginning of Super Junior-M’s career, the members got their turn in a short trailer that was released from April 4 to April 7, 2008. The trailer clip attracted a lot of attention from fans and the public because it surpassed 1.4 million views over the past year in less than four days. This shows that many people have started to pay attention to the progress and beginnings of Super Junior M.Super Junior M started their promotion by releasing the Chinese version of the song Super Junior which was popularized previously in 2006 entitled U.
