Super Junior became known to the international public after releasing the single “Sorry, Sorry,” in 2009, the title song of their most successful album, Sorry, Sorry. For several years, they were divided into small groups, with industry targets and different music lovers. In general, because of Super Junior’s success as entertainers, the Korean entertainment management began training their music groups in other areas of the entertainment world, such as acting and guiding. Super Junior are K-Pop artists who have had the best album sales for four consecutive years. Super Junior have won sixteen awards at the Golden Disk Awards, thirteen music awards at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, they are the second group to have won the Favorite Korean Artist Award at the 2008 MTV Asia Awards, after the jtL in 2003. In 2012, they were nominated for the “Best Asian Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2015, they won “International Artist” and “Best Fandom” at Teen Choice Awards.

Super Junior’s Debut

In early 2005, Lee Soo-man announced that he was preparing a boys group project that was to come out at the end of the year. He called the singing group to be “The Stardom Gate of Asia,” because most members of this group were selected from their experiences as actors, MCs, models, radio broadcasters before their debut. At that time Heechul and Kibum had established themselves as actors, and most of the other members had appeared on various television shows and media. Inspired by the Japanese women’s group Morning Musume’s rotation concept, Lee Soo-Man stated that the group will also experience member changes, in which new members will replace certain members each year to keep the group young and solid. The concept was then new to the K-Pop market. For a while, the group was rumored to be named O.V.E.R, short for “Obey the Voice for Each Rhythm.” However, before it was officially announced, the company called them Juniors, describing the young age of the members when they became trainees. After the members showed their different abilities to the company after the picnic, the company decided their group name would be Super Junior, and they officially became Super Junior ’05, the first generation of Super Junior. Super Junior 05 performed a pre-debut performance on the Korean channel Mnet on September 11th, 2005. At that time, they performed various styles ranging from hip-hop dance, where they danced accompanied by B2K’s “Take It to the Floor.” Han Geng, Eunhyuk, and Donghae also performed a dance accompanied by Usher’s song “Caught Up.” However, the performance was only aired on September 16th, 2006, as a segment in the Super Junior Show, their first documentary television program. The group officially debuted on the ‘SBS’ Inkigayo music program in November 2005, featuring their first single “Twins (Knock Out).” A digital single consisting of “Knock Out,” “You Are the One,” and three additional songs was released online on November 8th, followed by the release of their debut album, Twins on December 6th, 2005. The album sold 28,536 copies in the first month after the release and was in the third position of the December 2005 monthly chart.

Super Junior’s Debut Song

On November 8th, 2005, a digital single containing “TWINS,” “You Are the One,” and three additional tracks was released. And on December 5th, 2005, a complete album was released titled Super Junior 05 (TWINS). Their debut album sold 28,536 copies and finished 3rd on the December 2005 chart. In the same month, SuJu collaborated with a senior group from their agency, Dong Bang Shin Ki (DBSK) or commonly known as TVXQ to perform the song “Show Me Your Love.” “Show Me Your Love” is a song to welcome Christmas, and became the best-selling song in December, and the single sold almost 50,000 copies in less than 30 days. After the “TWINS” and “Show Me Your Love” promos were finished, they continued with the second single, “Miracle,” in February 2006 (still without Kyuhyun). The music video for this song was made during the winter, when the weather was cold, and their lips feel frozen… SuJu wears thin clothes, and keeps prancing happy, dancing and singing. In the music video, it doesn’t look like they’re really cold… It’s really great! Professional… The single “Miracle” managed to occupy the first position on various Korean music charts and Thai music charts. This single is also the last single for Super Junior with a frill of 05.

Super Junior’s Debut Stage

They shone even more in 2009, after releasing their new album Sorry Sorry, in March. With this album, they won first place in various charts of Korean songs and the album also won the Daesang award at the Golden Disk Awards.

One of Super Junior’s (SuJu) members, Kim Ryeo-Wook, officially released his latest single, “I’m Not Over You,” on Wednesday, January 1st, 2019. “I’m Not Over You” is a soft pop ballad song with lyrics containing the words someone wants to convey to a lover after the relationship ends. Sentimental tone guided by soft piano melodies combined with excerpts of melancholy strings before heading to the climax with an orchestral accompaniment. This K-Pop star also displays its crystalline tone, expressly changing the tone with every emotional change from the lyrics. This new single was part of Ryeowook’s second EP, Drunk on Love, his first album as a solo artist after returning to his civilian life after completing South Korea’s military service last year.
