Super Junior T’s Profile
Trot is a type of music from South Korea that is usually favored by parents who are over 40 years old. Left alone, trot will become less desirable to teenagers. However, the founder of SM Entertainment, Lee Soo-man, found a way to increase the popularity of trot into a music genre that can be loved by everyone in the community.Debuting in 2005, Super Junior became one of the legendary K-pop groups of its time. Exactly 2 years after the group debuted and was enjoying a very good career in its home country, Super Junior got a schedule to be divided into subunits as one of its promotions.Super Junior-T (Hangul: 슈퍼 주니어 – 트) or also known as Super Junior-Trot is a subunit of Super Junior that debuted on February 23, 2007. It consists of 6 members including Leeteuk, Heechul, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, and Kangin.These members are actually the same as the Super Junior-H subunit except that Yesung’s position was replaced by Heechul in Super Junior-T. With the group, the agency wanted to broaden people’s interests so that they can be interested in trot as an original music genre from South Korea by making it the main concept of the subunit Super Junior-T.Super Junior-T has succeeded in becoming one of the most popular subunits in South Korea, and it has many achievements just by releasing one single, which is “Rokkugo” (Hangul: 로 꾸거). According to the Music Industry Association of Korea, “Rokkugo” managed to rank as Korea’s sixteenth best-selling record and also the number one best-selling single of 2007.In 2008, Super Junior-T also had the opportunity to debut in Japan with the release of the Japanese version of “Rokkugo” with the alternative title “Rock & Go” (feat. Moeyan) before the subunit decided to go on hiatus.
