Tasty Facts
Tasty’s Pre-debut Story
Daeryong and Soryong danced while longing for Rain and were selected to become trainees by JYP in 2006. During Park Jin-young‘s comeback in 2007, they also served as backup dancers. They also went to college as well as being trainees, but it frustrated them because they had to debut quickly, because the big opportunity had to be grabbed quickly.Daeryong and Soryong are brothers who started their journey as trainees under JYP Entertainment from 2006–2011. They were lucky enough to get the opportunity to be trained under one of the big agencies in South Korea. Beside that, Daeryong and Soryong also spent their time training with the same choreographer that worked for Beyonce and Ne-Yo.According to an interview with 1st Look, after passing the JYP audition at once, they spent five years as trainees. In 2007, they appeared on stage as Park Jin-young’s backup dancers, but in the end, they didn’t get a chance to debut and moved to Woollim.A piece of information that keeps coming up on social media is that Woollim left Tasty for 5 years, but this is not true. In Woollim, Tasty were recognized as a prepared rookie and they were able to make a quick debut, and also appeared on Weekly Idol, which is said to be highly competitive. As JYP trainees, JYP Entertainment sent them to study abroad for three years in the United States, so they were trained by choreographers such as Ne-Yo and Justin Timberlake. Under the influence of this time, they are fluent in English and create 90% of the choreography themselves. If you watch Weekly Idol, the “MAMAMA” clock dance choreography looks particularly good too.
Tasty’s Debut Under Woolim Entertainment
Tasty members Daeryong and Soryong are Korean-Chinese so they speak Korean quite a bit. However, they can’t strike out with agility in variety shows. Tasty debuted on August 9th, 2012, with the release of the mini-EP Spectrum. They had their first stage appearance at M Countdown. The title song of their EP is “You Know Me”.Then, on August 8th, 2013, the second mini-album SPECTACULAR was released. The title song “MAMAMA” was written by Infinite H and featured in the music video. A show with an intro with an exciting brass sound and improved live performance! Music Core‘s comeback stage received favorable reviews.Like any entertainment agency, it shares a certain fandom with the senior group Infinite. In accordance with Woollim’s tradition, they share accommodations, and in Mangwon-dong used by Infinite in the past. As CEO Lee Jung-yeop did to Infinite, he announced that he would move their dorm if they won 1st place.Although Tasty have consistently stood in music studios by releasing mini-albums and digital singles one after another and putting up a separate remix stage, they didn’t actually enjoy appearing in variety shows due to language limitations. As Woollim became a label under SM C&C, Tasty entered the Chinese market, where there are no language restrictions, and they can successfully promote their music.
Tasty Left Woolim Entertainment and Moved To China
At midnight on July 16th, 2015, Tasty abruptly announced the unilateral suspension of activities in Korea through the official Weibo. It was not an official announcement by Woollim, but rather a notification made through their SNS, so a considerable amount of ripple was expected.Tasty’s side took issue with the agency and the difference of opinion about the new album. But by irresponsibly acting this way within the contract period is one to receive enough criticism. In the meantime, the majority of the idol community is blaming Tasty, not the company, because it is so similar to the formula that SM’s Chinese members made unilateral claims on social media and set up a private agency in China where there were no sanctions for breach of contract in Korea. After merging with SM C&C, they supported overseas activities enough to even stand on the opening stages of SM Town and Girls’ Generation concerts, but they decided to use it to end their Korean activities. It was also a very selfish act to pour cold water in that way that morning. There was also an article posted on the official Weibo of the release of a single in China and this confirms that they had made a single in advance and planned to continue their activities in China even before they left Korea. Obviously, their contract ended on June 5th, 2015.In the end, Woollim made an official statement on the 22nd, saying, “Stop asking for a unilateral contract termination, and let’s meet and talk in person, not on social media.” In the end, Woollim Entertainment prepared a legal action against them, including a contract violation lawsuit, but in August 2015, they first filed a lawsuit against SM C&C, the parent company of Woollim Entertainment, to confirm the invalidity of the exclusive contract. On June 23rd, 2016, the Seoul Central District Court ruled that Tasty’s claim rejected all of them and ruled that the case was dismissed.Tasty haven’t released anything since 2016 and they haven’t made a comeback since November 2019 when they came back with a song titled “Late Night” (深夜) after 3 years. Although they were still active in 2020, their debut is late and their visual and appearance already looks old because they seem not to have taken good care of themselves during the period of cessation of activities. Now, Tasty are active under the name Hanch兄 (Hanch Brothers).Well, that was all the information about Hanch Brothers who started out as a duo called Tasty, and everything you should know about them. Let’s keep giving our support and lots of love to Tasty in the hope that whatever they are doing right now will bring them happiness and success.
