Fun Facts About Kim Sejeong

Pre-debut: K-Pop Star 2

Before joining the competition in Mnet’s Produce 101, Kim Se-jeong participated in K-Pop Star 2 when she was still only 16 years old. Although she didn’t make it into the second round audition, YG Entertainment’s CEO, Yang Hyun-suk, who was a judge at that time, brought her back where she performed BIGBANG’s Taeyang’s “I Need A Girl,” featuring another contestant, namely Jo Yoo-min. For the next performance, Kim Se-jeong was cast by Yang Hyun-suk to team up with other contestants, namely Nicole Curry and Lee Soo-kyung, for the final casting round but they ended up eliminated from the competition. Sejeong in Produce 101

Many of Se-jeong’s fans actually took note of her after her appearance in Produce 101 and her popularity started to increase since then. As you know from before, Kim Se-jeong joined Produce 101 as a contestant in January 2016. Kim Se-jeong represented her label, Jellyfish Entertainment, with two other trainees, namely Kang Mi-na and Kim Na-young. The 3 trainees from Jellyfish Entertainment were assigned to Group A in the first episodes and Kim Se-jeong constantly achieved the first rank and mostly the highest ranks in several episodes. This is how the nickname “God Sejeong” first came to be. On April 1st, 2016, Produce 101 came to the final episode and they announced some of the trainees who made into the final line-up of Mnet’s girl group I.O.I. Kim Se-jeong was one of the contestants who made it to the top 11 poll-winners and reached the second overall rank with 525,352 votes. Kim Se-jeong debuted as a member of I.O.I and started promoting with the group for events and CF.

As a member of one of the top girl groups in South Korea, Kim Se-jeong had a tight schedule with promoting for various events, making stage comebacks, fan signing, concerts, variety shows, and a lot more. Debut with Gugudan

Kim Se-jeong was busy with her own solo career as an MC of variety shows. Additionally, she was also promoting her new single, “Flower Road” (꽃길), produced by Zico and even the release of the music video for the song as well. On June 10th, 2016, YMC Entertainment announced that Kim Se-jeong will be returning to her agency, Jellyfish Entertainment, after promoting with I.O.I has ended and she will debut with the upcoming girl group, Gugudan. Gugudan (구구단) is a girl group under Jellyfish Entertainment that debuted on June 28th, 2016, with 8 members, namely Se-jeong, Mimi, Hana, Hae-bin, Na-young, Mina, Sally, Soyee. One of their members, Hye-yeon, left the group on October 25th, 2018. Check out Gugudan’s debut single “Wonderland” in the video below!

On July 10th, 2018, Kim Se-jeong was added to Gugudan’s subunit, Saemina, along with two other members, Mina and Na-young. Saemina released their first single titled “Saemina.” Check out Semina’s music video below!
