Kang Dong-won’s Thoughts About Dating, Marriage, and His Ideal Type
Kang Dong-won once confessed in an interview that he would never date openly as he never wants to get caught, “It seems awful just thinking about it. I hate other stuff getting in the way of my acting. I despised my private life being revealed when I was in my 20’s. Now, I try to not pay much attention to it and ignore the rest [rumors]”. On the topic of marriage, the actor stated that he wants to get married around his late 30’s or early 40’s, “I am not sure about marriage yet because I do not have any thoughts on it. However, you will never know what can happen in the future, and I do not plan to stay single forever for the sake of the public.” In another interview with News1star, Kang Dong-won said that he is not good at flirting, “I got somebody’s number only once in my life. I do not like forcing something. I like when it is natural.” The actor said that he is not originally confident so he does not know how to deal with relationships with the opposite sex. The topic often frustrated him, “I cannot get a grasp on women. I have no way of knowing how they are feeling. There are many times I do not know what they are thinking.” Lastly, Kang Dong-won said that his ideal type has changed from a woman without stomach fat to someone who likes eating, “I do not really care about a person’s body now. A skinny girl is as charming as a plump one. Sometimes, when several different types of women join a get-together, I feel different attractions to all of them”.
Kang Dong-won and Song Hye-kyo’s Dating Rumor
The first female celebrity to be involved in a dating rumor with Kang Dong-won is none other than South Korea’s top-notch beauty Song Hye-kyo. They were spotted together in Paris, France, on May 20, 2014. The picture of the actor and actress was taken by a Chinese fan who posted it to an online forum. Many netizens commented that either the pair must have gone on a vacation together or Kang Dong-won followed Song Hye-kyo who went to the Cannes Film Festival. However, Kang Dong-won and Song Hye-kyo’s agency United Artist Agency denied the rumor, “The two are in Paris for a photo shoot after wrapping up their movie My Brilliant Life. Staff is with them”. What their agency said turned out to be true as Vogue released their photo shoot which you can see below.
Kang Dong-won and Han Hyo-joo’s Dating Rumor
In July 2018, Kang Dong-won was involved in a dating rumor with actress Han Hyo-joo. The two of them have worked together on the movies Golden Slumber and Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade and were seen together in the U.S.A. Despite the picture, Kang Dong-won and Han Hyo-joo’s respective agencies denied the rumor, saying that their schedules happened to overlap, “Kang Dong-won had been filming in the U.S.A. and Han Hyo-joo was in the same location for a meeting with different film personnel. They are indeed close colleagues who share information on the best eateries, hence they were going out to eat with other members of the staff.” Many netizens said with sarcasm that the pair suits each other well since Kang Dong-won’s great-grandfather was pro-Japanese and Han Hyo-joo has an older brother who bullied someone to death during his enlistment. Similar to the passive-aggressive response, netizens doubt the agencies’ refutation, “If Dispatch confirms their relationship, then I am sure they will then say, ‘We have been seeing each other with good intentions.’ Kang Dong Won is not the type of man who would go out of his way to meet a woman. If they were caught in America, then they are dating for sure.” Regarding their dating rumor, Kang Dong-won said that it does not affect his work with Han Hyo-joo, “We just went, ‘Oh, there was a scandal,’ and that was it. Nothing became awkward; we were not really fazed.” In addition, Kang Dong-won revealed that he did not have many scenes with the actress in Golden Slumber, “I just filmed with her 2-3 times.
